Melissa A. Sandman, MD, FACS, ABVLM

Dr. Melissa Sandman is Board Certified in General Surgery and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine as well as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. She practiced General and Trauma Surgery since completing a surgical residency in Grand Rapids in 2001 and since 2009 has focused her practice exclusively in Phlebology (varicose veins). She was born in Grand Rapids and graduated from Hope College in 1992. She graduated from medical school at Wayne State University.

Since traveling to Honduras for Vein Week with the Hackett Hemwall Patterson Foundation in 2016, Dr. Sandman has become passionate about providing medical care to patients in underserved areas of Honduras who have severe varicose vein disease and ulcers. She is on the board of WHATcares, a nonprofit organization who in conjunction with the Honduran Red Cross is piloting a program to provide year-round ulcer and wound care for people in Honduras with non-healing ulcers.
